I can hand on heart say this has got to be the worst place I have ever stayed. If you could look past the fact that there was no curtains, no door handle on the bathroom door and no door on the shower. However the room is grimy the mattresses are disgusting dirty, there is one plug socket for 5 people. Getting into the room is like some kind of escape room challenge with needing 3 different codes by the time you get to your room. Yes it’s in the centre but so are benches.

If I could give it zero stars I would. This is the worst place I've ever stayed in. The beds were covered in paint where they hadn't been covered and the walls painted, the shower is the worst I've ever used, and I've showered in fields. The door locks barely work, the floor is scratched and ruined to all hell, the bathroom door doesn't close properly because the door trim isn't properly attached.

We paid £130 for one nights stay here and when we arrived, it became apparent that this place is absolutely not worth the money. There was faeces in the toilet, no door on the shower, limescale and dirt all over the shower, mattresses stained with urine and rotten floor boards. In the room was 1 set of 3 bunk beds , no chair, no mirror, a window that opened 2-3cm it was very claustrophobic. Absolutely would not recommend. I would expect to pay about £20 per night to stay here, and that’s being generous!!!

Great location for exploring the night life on offer. The rooms felt secure as each door had a code to enter. Bed was clean and ok for a night or two. Floor was a bit dirty though but maybe that was just our room. It's basic but a great price all the same

Stayed here for 3 nights and you get what you pay for. Our rooms were clean and we were central for everything. Towels are not provided so make sure you pack some as it is a cheap hotel no towels, no door on showers which made the floor very wet and slippy and a hazard to us. Staff were very efficient (they broke a girl out of the toilet) and they were extremely helpful. So we would recommend for people to stay if they want somewhere cheap to just sleep in. We will probably stay here again when we come back !

Stayed here with 8 friends in the penthouse level room 11 for 3 days and 2 nights. We could not find the place initially considering it has changed its streetside billboard (seen in historical pictures here) to literally nothing that discerns the building as containing a hostel. Instead you will be greeted to a convenience store on your right and a door that says Thai Massage Parlour above it to your left. Ponder beforehand if you feel like walking in and out of a massage parlour diminishes your stature towards observers. The convenience store owner is actually the hostel receptionist. Forget about a phone in your room that connects directly to him; if you need anything from him you have to physically visit the store which on the weekend closes around 2:30 AM. |The building itself seems dated but sturdy, the 4 flights of stairs (no elevator so work those quads) take a while and both the front door and your room door will be locked with separate keypads and subsequent keycodes. This is a system that works well unless you're staying here to take a deep dive into the nearby bar scene in which case you might end up forgetting either and/or both codes thus rendering you effectively homeless (and trust me when I say that in Newcastle you will not be the sole person in that latter group). |The room itself is fine, all white and bright and our 8 person room contained 4 bunkbeds, 1 window, 2 wall sockets (ask the receptionist for a power strip or play musical chairs/Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome with 7 others for power, dealer's choice) and something akin to a bathroom. Although the toilet flushed adequately, it being situated directly across from the shower which had no curtains or sliding doors effectively meant that any time spent on the porcelain required swimwear and flipflops if any hope was to be had of having a minimally hygienic time on Man's Last Great Bastion. It also had a sink.|Beds are relatively comfortable although not necessarily clean (I noticed some black hairs which I told myself were just cloth fibres to be able to sleep). |Although we did not spend a significant amount of time inside the hostel, one process in particular remains unexplained: during one of the days that we were all out of the room, someone apparently painted parts of our room's walls, ceiling and support beams. We know this because one pair of pants had suddenly turned an unnatural shade of white in a matter of hours and due to swatches of the mentioned areas suddenly seeming whiter and being wet to the touch. Me leaning on one of the staircase walls also turned my black shirt white so that's a pattern.|There is no eating or drinking area nor a relaxing/lounge type area. It's the stairs and it's your room and that is it.|Location wise the hostel is a party animal's dream so the place scores an average solely based on that. Many great bars, restaurants, taverns and pubs litter the surrounding area of which I can personally recommend Filthy's and the Simply Greek tavern.|All of this is fairly standard in a hostel in this price range so you do get what you pay for obviously. Although this review might seem scathing, I would return to this hostel. I would bring my own power strip, shower curtains and bed linnens though.
