This is such a lovely, peaceful place! Like a home away from home but way nicer! So clean and luxurious with a great kitchen the few rooms lead off from. I love the self check system, the calm serenity, and the amazing service….I felt so safe there as a solo traveler. The staff answered my emails so fast and were so kind. This is a wonderful small family business! I can’t wait to go back. I’ll be going here whenever I go to Chico!

The Hotel James is a refreshingly comfortable boutique hotel in Chico. We stayed in the Zinfandel Room which was well appointed and especially nice with the included private patio with a hot tub. The hot tub was warm and relaxing, even on a cold January night. The room can comfortably sleep six with the two hide-a-bed couches, and very roomy for a couple's night out. The adjacent brew house and wine bars make it so you don't have to drive anywhere for being adults. In the morning, the adjacent breakfast place has top quality food in a nice restaurant.

Besides the room, there is a common kitchen/dining room which would be perfect if you are renting the limited number of rooms for a large group like a wedding party or reunion. Plenty of room for the group to cook or cater a meal and eat it together at the same table without leaving the building.

Elegant hotel, self serve. (No human contact.) use your key-punch numbers. Spacious lobby, large room and bathroom. Kitchen is right outside the room , well stocked, clean and attractive. The bed was very comfortable and my husband and I slept well.

Hotel James isn't like a regular hotel or motel; there's no reception desk and no staff there. You let yourself in with the code they give you. There are only 4 rooms, and they all open onto a central kitchen/lounge area. I stayed in the Merlot Room. It was spacious, and beautifully decorated, with a large bathroom. It looks and feels upscale. The bed was comfortable and the air conditioning was the perfect temperature (and adjustable). It's a very nice room. The only problem is that while the room itself is soundproof, the door isn't-- and that means that you will hear everything that happens in the central kitchen area. The family staying in the room next to mine got up very early to make breakfast and load their kids, dogs, and luggage into their car. It was loud; all the surfaces are hard, and you can hear everything as if you were in the same room. I didn't use anything in the kitchen, but it was stocked with yogurt, juices, bagels, muffins, cookies and K-cups for coffee. There is a also good breakfast place next door. I really liked this place except for the noise. Because of that though, I'm not sure I'd stay here again.

Unique experience, but by the time I left, I dug it. Had a heater problem initially, but owner resolved it quickly and we were cozy the whole time once it warmed up. Parking little tough with all the other businesses on the property, but ended up being fine for us. Everything is new feeling and clean, the kitchen area is well stocked and easy to navigate. Bed was comfy, enjoyed the stay.

Our family had a wedding reception to attend so we all booked rooms here - all 5 rooms. The hotel is different as there is no front desk and you are sent a code to get in the front door and your room but it works and the managers are on call for anything you could want. My room was Merlot - all rooms are named after a wine - it was wonderful - nice appointments and all one could want - each room had individual heating/cooling so that was very nice and a nice sized TV with a good selection of channels. Bedding and towels were excellent in quality. There is no housekeeping done to the rooms, unless you make a special request, but the common areas are cleaned daily and stocked. There is even a washer and dryer that guests can use which came in helpful for our group. Breakfast items are plentiful and a very nice selection is available. Would highly recommend this hotel - it's a step above most of the rooms available in Chico and in a great area. We will definitely stay here again.
