It gives me no pleasure to write this, but it will be our last stay at this hotel that we have grown to love. It is an expensive stay, but we always considered it worthwhile, even with a $50 pet fee and a $250+ plus room. The last two times we've stayed, however, we stayed in Room 7, which works well for us since it is on the ground floor, and has an outside patio area, which is helpful with the dog. The problem is that the water in the shower won't get hot. You have to turn it on and wait more than five minutes before it reaches about 80 degrees, which is fine in a swimming pool, but not a shower. After the first time, I texted staff about this (it's an unstaffed hotel, so we never see anyone) and they said they didn't know and would look into it. On this stay in early January 2025, the same thing happened. I was so disappointed. When you've been traveling all day and it's cold out, a hot shower just feels wonderful. When I wrote about it to staff again, I was told a housekeeper told them it seemed to be fine, and no one else had complained, and so ... not a problem. When there is no staff, and the only way to complain is to figure out a phone number to text to, most people won't take the time. The lack of concern, especially for someone on a fifth visit, is very disappointing.

What a fabulous old hotel! We went to Dunsmuir on New Year's Eve for a concert at the Wheelhouse (Jason Dea West and the Siskiyou Crest) and our stay at the Mossbrae was the cherry on top of a magnificent adventure! The rooms were so cozy and nicely furnished. The hotel is a welcoming mix of historical and modern. Beautiful woodwork, luxurious bedding and so many amazing details from the cast iron door stopper to the vintage bathroom sinks and light fixtures. Downtown Dunsmuir is a similar mix of historic and modern and the hotel really captured the vibe of this sleepy, yet somewhat sophisticated town. I genuinely loved this hotel! There were so many captivating details that it almost makes me forget to mention the amenities. In room coffee and French press. Extra pillows and blankets, plenty of soaps personal care items in the bathroom too..not to mention radiant heat in the bathroom floors!!! The only reason I don't give the hotel 5 stars is because there was no hot water in the shower in the morning! My husband got all ready to shower and dang it! The hot water never materialized. It was a small thing, but also a big thing. Still not enough of anything to ever prevent me from returning! In our haste to get on the road in the morning I forgot to leave a tip for the housekeeper and I am regretful of that. The place was sparkling and great care was taken. Next time I wont forget! Thank you Mossbrae!

Took my husband on a surprise getaway for his birthday. The Mossbrae Hotel did not disappoint. I wanted something classy and special and this was perfect. The management (owner?) was very attentive to my needs and questions and even hung a Happy Birthday banner in the room prior to our arrival. Our communication was entirely through text, I never even saw another person during our stay. Our room (6) was absolutely gorgeous and very well appointed. The entire building was just beautiful. It was within walking distance to several restaurants and bakeries in the gorgeous town of Dunsmuir and just a very short drive to beautiful waterfalls, the river and Mt. Shasta. Being there was so relaxing and peaceful and I highly recommend the Mossbrae to anyone visiting this area.

This place is excellent! The 1 queen bed "room" is really an apartment and feels like home with kitchenette, bedroom area, living room area, sitting room, large bathroom with 2 sinks (and heated floor!). All the rooms were impeccably clean and stocked with everything traveler might need - from nice toiletries to coffee and pour over set up. The room seems freshly remodeled and very stylish, lots of nice touches making it feel like someone's home, not soulless hotel. Self check in worked very well - got entry info well in advance, everything worked great. We had a nice dinner at Dunsmuir Brewing Works across the street - the place looks unassuming but food was great and service warm. I highly recommend Mossbrae Hotel and would love to stay there again sometimes.

Actually, a lot of things are better than my home!||Such a comfortable hotel and place to relax. ||Mossbrae has been a stopover for my wife and when we leave Washington, headed back home to the SF Bay Area.||I appreciate the codes to access the lobby and the room.||Thanks again for another great stay. 🙂

We’ve stayed at the Mossbrae several times now. Like all the other reviewers have stated, it’s a clean, well-appointed hotel with easy instructions for self check-in. The only two “dings” I would give them as a self-described luxury hotel is that twice now we’ve had to call about the lack of hot water in the shower; this has happened in two different rooms on two separate occasions. Additionally, we were a little surprised that during our most recent stay of 4 days and 3 nights, our room was never cleaned. If there are no regular housekeeping services during guest stays, this seems appropriate to post on the hotel website. Other than these two issues, this hotel remains one of the best places to stay in the surrounding area.

Super cute contactless check-in hotel. In a convenient part of town that made most restaurants walkable. The rooms were well decorated and came with multiple chargers for different devices which we thought was a nice touch. The beds weren't the most comfortable, but we liked that the rooms were separated by supply closets so they weren't sharing walls with each other. Back patio was a nice touch. Only recommendation is to have outdoor lights to enjoy that area at night.
