Stayed here for a Saturday night in August on my way from Sacramento to Lake Tahoe. Booking was for Mother Lode, but the office was at Gold Trail, and when I got there, the owner moved me to a room at Gold Trail. That was nice too. Room was clean with enough space. No breakfast at the motel, but they did give me a lot of choices of sweet danishes and other packaged pastries. The motel is very easy to get to, right off of the highway.

Stayed here for a few days while passing through Placerville. This motel is associated with Gold Trail Lodge and often you will find staff at either location for checkin etc. No breakfast noted, but there were candies & danish’s offered for guest in the lobby at Gold Trail Lodge. The owners Don & Livia are extremely kind & accommodated our requests. We really appreciate their hospitality. The pool is clean with varying depths and there are umbrella shaded tables and chairs for seating. Just outside the pool fence is a beautiful garden with many flowers, tons of birds & a bird bath. There is also a table with chairs to enjoy the view. The rooms are basic, but include a microwave, coffee maker & refrigerator.
I would highly recommend this location compared to the other motels on the same street. More value for your money here!

Got Mother Loded last weekend during a wedding in Placerville. Absolutely loved it. Room was nice, pool area is great, and location was great. Can’t beat the price for what you get. Very happy with my stay and would definitely come back!

Remodeled rooms 1,2,3,4 good. NO BREAKFAST AS ADVERTISED and you have to check-in at motel next door.

We stayed in a room across from the beautiful pool with 2 beds.| All around us was stunning natural beauty.|Stayed here because the rest of our party had booked here as it was close to the venue .First off the carpet makes you not want to take a step without shoes on, the beds were made and appeared tidy but I couldn't get over the state of the carpet. The TV's picture was zoomed in and would only display the top 1/4 of any program or video that was playing. The Samsung TV option was scaled correctly however anything playing would only show the extremely zoomed in partial Pic. Even more disappointing, during our entirety of our visit the Internet that the TV was connected to was only showing 3-5 seconds before cutting out/buffering. The free wifi is a complete joke as it is not sufficient to stream a video much less an entire movie/'s. To top it off when I went to get my deposit ,I paid cash for the room $ 142 plus$50 deposit. I handed the lady a single 1 hundred note 2 fifty's and 2 one dollar bills ( I paid$202 so I would get $60 back with the deposit instead of the $50 as I had no change ) on the receipt she had already wrote the totals I was to pay not the amount I paid her as she had no idea what I was planning and she had already finished the recite so i wrote 202 on my carbon copy and made Shure to both tell her and visually confirm flashing the bills in front of both of us as I counted it out. I Figured she just didn't want to redo the receipt, fine. I had done my part to confirm the totals and I told her I would just get it back with the deposit as she was helping my nephew next and we were running late and had to get dressed for the ceremony. I thought this would avoid any questions about this at checkout as the paperwork didn't show any change even after I had made her aware of the payment. She nodded to me and that was all I needed. Well at checkout it was an older male who was pleasant both on the phone and in person ( I had called to ask about checkout time ) and understandably he needed to confirm this with her. The distinguished lady came out with a distorted face angrily insisting it was not true...I was flabbergasted! Her story was that she gave me $10 change the day before which was either an outright lie or her mistake. Either way it was the worst part of my stay. Luckily the older gentleman said it was okay but it was not okay with me. I didn't even mention how terrible our stay was I just grabbed my deposit plus the extra $10 I paid and left.

During our stay at the Motherlode Motel we could not shower because the faucet was broke. It would neither push or pull out and the handle just spun. The tub drain was lying on the floor and there was a used shampoo bottle in the shower. While using the bathroom sink the vanity was pulling away from the wall. The pillows were old and lumpy which doesn't make for a good nights sleep. The wifi was awful and couldn't be used at all. Friends of ours that were staying at the same time ended up in a handicapped unit which we didn't ask for and weren't told that that's what they would be staying in. They too had a vanity that pulled away from the wall. They said that the room smelled like someone had vomited or died in the room, the smell was so bad. Management had to have known about this smell since the bathroom fan was running and windows were open. Upon checking out we told the management of the issues. The woman was very rude and we were basically told that we were stupid and didn't know how to use a shower and that we were the first ones to make these complaints. I had to give a one star in all categories because I couldn't give less. We knew when reserving these rooms that they were old but there was no excuse for stink and nonfunctioning necessities. We will never stay again. EVER!!!

OK...so I feel like I was cheated for starters. My options were the Mother Lode Motel or the Gold Trail Motor Lodge. The bookings offered had the Mother Lode at a more expensive rate, but it had better reviews so I went with that. We go to check in and you have to go over to the Gold Trail (late at night)...which is fine. BUT...they gave us a room at the Gold Trail. I questioned the desk clerk and he insisted because they are owned by the same people, the rooms are interchangeable. It is not advertised this way at all and I paid like $20 more than I needed to for that room. Now granted, we were only staying the one night and it was too cold to swim, but I would have been mad if had been a summer visit and I had to drive down the hill to use the pool at Mother Lode. I just think the whole thing is super shady. Aside from that..it was reasonably clean, but room itself was very run down. Poor patch jobs in the wall, splintering furniture, and VERY weird closet layout (it was like a hallway to nowhere with the top shelf in the middle of it....incredibly odd). Bed was pretty comfy though. Overall...about what you'd expect from a cheap motel. My only issue was really the pay for one motel and put in the other.
