Absolutely horrible business. Got there late after booking online. The room came up to 105.00. I gave them half cash and half on a prepaid debt card I use for traveling. The ignorant man at the counter would not accept my card and told me I would have to get the cash. So there's 5.00 at the ATM machine. I come back with the remainder in cash then he informs me there is a 10.00 deposit for the remote control! After I complete that money and get the room key, my companion has a service dog. He came pounding on the door and said we had to get out because no pets allowed. He would not accept the service dog. So at 1am in the morning and no other options on a Friday night to get a room, got stuck staying up all night at a Cafe. I will never do business with such shady and ignorant people. There was 1 car and room occupied on a Friday night. Now it's understandable as to why. To add to that there were 2 police cars blocking the entrance when I went to check in.

Oners ate kinda standoffish, borderline rude. In there defense they deal with a lot of sketchy Customers. Up all night, smelly rooms.. u get the idea.

They gave our room away. It was non-refundable with Booking.com because we arrived at 11 PM. They had a smoking room for the same price and wanted to charge us $15 extra for a non-smoking room with 2 beds.|The room and carpet are dirty and the room needs to be painted. There was no blanket on the bed.|We have arrived many times late at night and have always had our room waiting for us. We were never notified of a time that our room would be given to someone else. I am sure they were going to charge us regardless of showing up or not.|Other reviews mention a fridge. We did not have one and were lucky to have 1 parking spot in tiny lot.|

Is what I now consider Motel 6 after staying at the Tropico. ||||Thoughts?||||Let's start with the positives:||1) a wonderfully oversized welcome mat. (the only reason this motel got 2 stars and not 1)||2) The bathroom was pretty nice and was probably the second bright spot behind the welcome mat. Came with soap that about as thin as could possibly be, but it was clean in a relative way.||3) The 4 Horsemen of the apocalypse did not pay us a visit,....||||||The negatives||1) This hotel makes Motel 6 look like a 5 star resort||2) The owner or manager on site is an incredibly cheap and rude lady who|| a) Goes in to your room and shuts off the air conditioning when you leave even though it 100 degrees outside|| b) Charges a $5 deposit on the TV remote...and wont give you the deposit back until yoiu officially check out of the motel. Note-the rooms arent that big and she can see your room directly from the walk up window. I have no clue why giving the remote back to get your deposit back was so hard for this woman. || c) Will make you feel more like a convict than a guest who is paying her salary||3) We booked a room with 2 beds and were given a room with one bed than was, at biggest, a full||4) This place has the smallest hardest to navigate parking lot ever. The street in an out is about as wide as a hallway and it's not hard to see how many people have damaged their vehicle coming or going from this place. The spots are barely big enough to fit a car and everyone has to park crooked because of the narrow entrances and narrow size of the overall lot.||||Other than that its perfect...||||To be fair to this woman, when its not summer and tourist season- I am guessing the room rates plummet and probably draws in some seedy characters. That said again...she can learn something about cusomer service from the Korean Owner of Mitzee Cafe we visited earlier. Top Notch and have to try. I almost want to see if I can talk the owner of Mitzee Cafe into buying the Hotel Tropico.

Basic room with a tv that worked okay but doesn't have great picture. Wifi is really good. A/C is good. Place is quiet, decent and clean. Shower was good. There is a mini fridge which was really helpful, but no microwave. The decor is dated but this is a really decent place to stay. There are restaurants fairly nearby in walking distance and it's in a quiet little neighborhood. Parking is free both on the street and in their small lot.||The owners are friendly enough.||The first day, they asked if I needed anything and did oblige with a cleaning when I asked for one. The second day I asked for towels and she brought them to the room but didn't bother to do anything else, even make the bed.||Be advised for no particular reason, they ask for a $5 cash deposit on the room "key" which is just one of those magnetic cards. I could understand for a real key, but it just seems petty to ask for a deposit for that plastic card.||The bed is just okay, the pillows were hard and uncomfortable and the bedding is average.||It was okay for the price, the location was good for me and I had no issues.

WORST MOTEL EVER.

If you have the right mind of choosing a motel, PLEASE DO NOT pick this one. If I can rate it negative stars, I would. But sadly, 1 star is the least you can give them so yeah. The Indian owner / receptionist is the rudest you might possibly get in your lifetime. He bangs on the door in the middle of the night to check how many people are in the room. Without respect and courtesy, he cusses out people. I hope this motel closes and never re-opens again.

I know the deal is cheap for getting a room in the better part of town, but you will have the worst experience. The bed doesn't smell good, and the pillow is straight flat. Towels stink too by the way.

Pay a little more, and get yourself professional and classy customer service. Don't go into the horrible experience me and my family had. Save yourself a nice trip.

By far the worst hotel/Motel I have stayed in in California. I was visiting a friend in the area and wanted a room for a few days nothing fancy just a place to rest my head. The older man(not sure if he was the owner) was an ***hole from the beginning. Shouting before I even got to my room about what he will charge me for if I do this or that!! If anything happens they will not help you resolve the issue they just demand your money and threaten to charge you extra if you brake rules. The rest of his family seemed very nice but he just made the whole experience negative. The rooms were basic but that was expected with the price. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!! You have been warned.
